Dr. Elham Hosseini-Beheshti is the Chief Scientist and Head of Scientific Innovation at the Asbestos and Dust Diseases Research Institute (ADDRI). She began her journey in extracellular vesicle (EV) research in 2009 during her Ph.D. studies at the Vancouver Prostate Centre/University of British Columbia and has been an active member of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles since its formation. Her research has centred on investigating the roles of various EV subpopulations in diseases, primarily cancers, to uncover their potential as biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
In 2023, Elham received the MRFF-funded REDI fellowship, through which she also served as an Investment Analyst with an Australian venture capital firm, gaining valuable insights into medical research commercialization. This experience empowers her to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and practical applications. Elham’s current research focuses on dust-related diseases, including mesothelioma and silicosis. She leads efforts from foundational science to translational research, aiming to advance our understanding of the mechanisms involved in the asbestos and dust-related diseases development and progression, as well as to identify effective biomarkers and therapeutic strategies for these largely human-made diseases.
