JOIN US FOR ANZSEV’S ECR WORKSHOP

Connecting to industry and commercial opportunities in EV research

TUESDAY, AUGUST 29, 2023

Join us for a virtual workshop discussing the opportunities for industry and academic researcher collaboration in EV research. This short format 1 hour workshop will be held on Tuesday 29th August 2023 from 9.00 am (AEST) / 11.00 am NZST and features presentations from Associate Professor Riccardo Natoli (Head of Clear Vision Research Lab, Australian National University, Canberra), Professor David Haylock (CEO, VivaZome Therapeutics) and Dr. Xiaofeng Wu (Senior Scientist in Medicine Design, Pfizer, USA) as well as question and discussion time.

Register here by EOD Monday, 28th August and receive a link to the meeting.

Topic and discussion

Associate Professor Riccardo Natoli

1.      How to diversify funding opportunities?

2.      How to grow a research group?

3.      How to build industry and research relationships?

4.      How to secure grant funding with industry partners to progress EV research?

Professor David Haylock

1.      How can EV researchers connect with the industry?

2.      How to develop collaborative research projects and grants with industry?

3.      How does the exchange of materials for evaluation and study, as well as fee for service research work?

Dr Xiaofeng Wu

1.      How can the knowledge and skill developed during PhD candidature prepare for industry roles?

2.      Sharing of experience as a senior scientist and ECR in the pharmaceutical industry.

Speaker Bios

Associate Professor Riccardo Natoli Head of Clear Vision Research Lab, Australian National University. His work focuses on discovering and developing novel molecular therapeutics and diagnostics for the treatment of retinal degenerations including for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). In this presentation, Associate Professor Natoli will provide an insight on his research journey including steps taken to diversify funding opportunities, grow his research group and build industry and research relationships, including the steps taken in helping secure a recent Cooperative Research Centre Project (CRC-P) grant funding with industry partner VivaZome Therapeutics Pty Ltd to progress the development and manufacture of customised extracellular vesicles for the treatment of retinal degeneration and traumatic brain injury.

Professor David Haylock is the CEO at VivaZome Therapeutics. He leads the R&D program funded by two CRC-P project grants to establish a universal exosome manufacturing process and to customise and test therapeutic exosomes. He has initiated and secured multiple collaborative partnerships with academic research groups, Australian SMEs and national and multinational biotech and pharma companies to evaluate a diverse range of technologies, materials, and assays for exosome manufacture. In this presentation, Professor Haylock will discuss opportunities for EV researchers to connect with industry, including collaborative research projects and grants, exchange of materials for evaluation and study, and fee for service research

Dr Xiaofeng Wu is a Senior Scientist in Medicine Design at Pfizer based in Groton, Conneticut in the USA, where he is a member of the Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics and Metabolism (PDM) group. He earned his PhD from Purdue University in the Analytical Chemistry group led by Professor Andy Tao, where he developed novel approaches for isolation and analysis of extracellular vesicles. As an early career researcher working in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr Wu will share the knowledge and skills developed during his PhD candidature that prepared him for his industry role and his experience so far on this career path.
